Aha Moment # 1

As the title says, this is first of my Aha moments series in which I will share my sudden realizations and reflections in sha Allah.

So, gardening hasn’t been my thing so far in life…. Though I really love the idea I have had my share of fears to stay back at it… But now that Ruqaiya is growing I want to start working on myself in this department for her sake because I want her to be good at it in sha Allah… (one of the very common activity I have read in montessori curriculum for toddlers is to care for plants / gardening).

A Muslim sister posted on Facebook about a motiya (a type of jasmine that is famous is Pakistan) plant that she was selling which caught my attention and seemed like a good opportunity to jump in this area and gradually grow in sha Allah. As I shared my intention of buying a plant and hopefully learn more about planting multiple sisters told me how difficult it is to care for plants and how many times they have tried but they always end up dead (point to be noted – each plant is different and requires different kinda care, more or less)… Hearing all that I kinda got worried if my plant will survive or will it die and kill my passion too.

Between frequent traveling I ended up leaving my plant at home alone, no one to care for. And every time I returned home I checked on it to make sure it was growing fine and alhamdulillah so far it is by the will of Allah. Just today when I checked it, I really felt accomplished seeing it’s growth… Or rather it safely growing normally.

At that very moment… I realized something…

When seeing a plant grow safely normally under my care made me feel so accomplished then how come I have never felt that about two little humans growing everyday alhamdulillah safely normally under my care?

Since when did gardening become harder than parenting?

Why do we take motherhood so lightly?

Well, we shouldn’t.

Each passing day when our children are safely growing under our care that is an accomplishment for which may be no one will appreciate us or even acknowledge it as an accomplishment but that doesn’t make it any less of one.

Today I want to tell each of the moms out there… take a moment and just appreciate your own accomplishment as a mom…you may have yelled at your child, you may have given them unhealthy meal, you may have not bathed them in days… It’s okay. As long as they are safe, happy and healthy you are an accomplished mom 🙂

  1. This is fantastic, I have taken care of many plants some died, I wish now I had included my children in the experience. They have families of their own now. The nurturing and caring for them never stops.

  2. Take a moment and just appreciate your own accomplishment as a mom….this line brings smile on my face…you have magical spell with words..nicely written post….

  3. Every single plant I’ve tried to welcome into my home has met an untimely death. It is quite unfortunately that I don’t have more of a green thumb. My parents are excellent gardeners! I just had an aha moment of my own…I’m not a parent, so perhaps I’m just not used to “tending” to things. 🙂

  4. Beautiful article ma shaa Allah! I love gardening and to be it seems a lot like parenting 😂 Just that plants are quiet and don’t move on their own 😜

  5. SubhanAllah! Came across this article just when one of my plants is dying😒 Raising plants, pets or children truly requires patience and lot of hard work. I feel so miserable that my plant wasn’t attended to while we were away just as parenting too has it’s rough days. And yes as you rightly said, need to give myself a pat on the back for being a mom of two, it ain’t easy and I’d surely a major achievement.

  6. Loved reading this post because it gives out such an important message. We should do things just for the sake of ourselves sometimes.
    Thank you for sharing!

  7. That’s such a beautiful ‘aha moment’! I hope mothers, especially stay at home mums, stop underestimating themselves and realize what an important job they’re doing. Yes it may not be a 9-5 job but it’s actually a 24/7 365 days a year kind of job and probably one of the most important jobs in the world. Jazak’Allah Khair for sharing!
